Ethno Cultural Activities

What can we do to reduce unnecessary suffering caused by addictive disease in disadvantaged ethnic populations?

  • From the beginning of the colonization of North America, native and other ethnic populations have been victimized and stigmatized by neglect and discrimination. As one of the consequences of this exploitation, many of these communities continue to be ravaged by social problems stemming from alcohol and other drug addiction.
  • The Ethno–Cultural Studies program learns from, and contributes to, successful ongoing sobriety movements in Canadian First Nations, American Indian Tribes, as well as other ethnic communities.
  • By partnering with committed Black and Latino community organizations around the problem of alcohol and other drug addiction, the Betty Ford Institute is helping to develop culturally-sensitive treatments and interventions to address the ongoing accumulation of personal, familial and community trauma.
  • Through research papers and conference presentations, the Betty Ford Institute is committed to raising awareness of the continuing struggle with addiction by native peoples and other ethnic populations.
